SciTE

SciTE is an editor for writing or altering pure text files, as its full name, The Scintilla Text Editor, suggests. It is not a word processor like AbiWord or OpenOffice.org Writer, but rather a light-weight, yet powerful editor for text files and a full-featured source code editor. Though it has an intuitive interface, it can be greatly customised and can serve as a development environment complete with syntax highlighting for over 40 file types, line numbering, bracket highlighting, and compiler output window.

The tabbed layout of SciTE allows you to open several files at once, to copy between them and to perform operations like search and replace on multiple files. The syntax highlighting feature is useful in editing web pages or program source code. Other features include PDF export, word completion, multiple undo, collapsible code trees, full screen and split screen modes. Due to its configurability, SciTE is a fairly complex application most suitable for technical users. Notepad2, also featured on this CD, is a direct derivative of SciTE, but aims to be a more user friendly enhanced replacement for Notepad.
